{July 6, 2008}   A Tiny Speck

Have you ever laid out under the hundreds of thousands stars and truly understood how great God is. I was listening to Matt Chandler on my Ipod this weekend as I sat out on the lake. He said that we go to the mountains and the beaches for vacation because it shows us how small we are and how significant God is. It is a form of worship, awe-inspiring worship. This hit home for me because the times I feel closest to God are those moments in which I see how great He is. Whether at the lake, the ocean, the mountains, or even a field looking up at the night sky, all I want to do is praise Him. One time at church camp, we had our last night service and then they loaded us up in the back of trucks. The air was thick with the presence of the Lord and anticipation was great. Where were we going? What were we doing? When we arrived we were in a field with trees surrounding everywhere. The night sky was alive with stars. As amazing as the stars were, they were not what had captivated everyone’s attention. The trees surrounding the field where we were sitting captivated everyone. The were huge thick trees that were filled with lightning bugs. Thousands of lighting bugs lit the trees like they were decorated for Christmas. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen and probably one of the more moving last night campfires I have been to. I think Psalm 8:1-5 sums up what I’m describing.

O Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory

above the heavens.

From the lips of children and infants

you have ordained praise

because of your enemies

to silence the foe and the avenger.

When i consider your heavens,

the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars,

which you have set in place,

what is man that you are mindful of him,

the son of man that you care for him?

You made him a little lower than

the heavenly beings

and crowned him with glory

and honor.

Psalm 8:1-5 (NIV)

Wow! God is amazing. So next time you want to feel small compared to a great God, all you have to do is take a walk outside and look up towards the sky. It will rock your world. Another thing that has rocked many of my friends worlds and mine is Pretty Place. Abba you are amazing and I can’t believe how much you have done for me and how unworthy I am of it!
